University Residences

International students are given several choices regarding accommodation arrangements prior to their arrival in Turkey. Most campus universities offer a variety of dormitory facilities or other options. Apart from university dormitories, all students can normally take advantage of state-owned hostels. Students are encouraged to contact their university to find out more about their specific options.

On-campus residency is managed by a university’s dormitory management office, which is solely responsible for all matters pertaining to housing, including placement decisions. Students who would like to live on-campus should first have received enrollment permission before contacting the dormitory management. Current and newly admitted students are also required to adhere to the guidelines set out by the university’s dormitory management in terms of housing periods, rules and application procedures.

Students’ admission and placement in dormitories is reviewed and revised at the start of every academic year in accordance with existing capacity and demand. The starting and closing dates specified in the academic calendar for each semester are also deemed as the opening and closing dates of an institute’s dormitories.

Accommodation is available for both undergraduate and graduate students. Dormitories are separated by gender and offer double-occupancy, single and quadruple rooms. All housing facilities are furnished and equipped with basic necessities such as a mini-refrigerator, bed, closet, desk, chair, bed stand, light, pillow and duvet. Students should bring their own towels, pillowcases, sheets and duvet covers.

Most of the dormitories have kitchens for self-catering; they also have TV rooms or small cafeterias which serve until midnight. Living in a dormitory is a great opportunity to get involved in campus and extracurricular activities. Furthermore, it is an ideal way for international students to meet other students and make new friends. Free, high-speed internet connections and phone services in all rooms is routinely offered by many universities.

Dormitories collect an initial deposit and levy monthly dorm fees. Deposits are paid in order to reserve a room at the beginning of each academic year and are refundable at the end of that academic year. Average room prices vary between 30 USD and 300 USD per month depending on facilities.
