Why Turkish?

Turkish is spoken as a native language by over 83 million people worldwide. Not only spoken by natives of Turkey proper, it is also a widely spoken language in Northern Cyprus, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Georgia, Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania and other parts of Eastern Europe, the Balkans and in the Caucasus. 

Through the presence of large Turkish immigrant communities abroad, people living in Western Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia have become familiar with hearing Turkish spoken around them. For instance, Turkish is the second most widely spoken language in Germany. Another 15 million people across the world speak Turkish as a second language.

As a function of its geo-strategic position, Turkey connects Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia. Hence, knowing Turkish and about Turkey are advantageous when it comes to international business and political affairs. As its economy continues to quickly grow and become a truly global power, business opportunities increase both in and with Turkey.  

Such languages as Azeri, Kazakh, Tatar, Kyrgyz, Uyghur and Uzbek are in the same Turkic language group as modern Turkish. These languages are closely related to each other. Thus, learning Turkish will also provide you with a good base for learning and understanding other Turkic languages. Considering that over 30 Turkic languages are spoken in Central Asia and the region’s growing geo-political importance, knowing Turkish will undoubtedly open up many interesting and exciting career and educational options for you.
